Rules
Requirements are simple; skill-level should be appropriate. This means descriptiveness
and a lack of short posts. I don't mind if every now and then you do one but please
keep it to a minumum. For the sake of authenticity and to decrease overpopulation,
no CC's(i.e. Created Characters, personal characters, or any character not canon to
the comic book history) are allowed to be your first character.
There are so many characters to choose from that there is no reason to need to make one up. However if
you truly wish to do so, we ask that you take on a canon character first to display your ability to play
fairly with both strengths and weaknesses. From there on if you create a character it will be considered
for play by the Mods. Tony (The Red X II) will be in charge of non-canon characters.
Knowledge of your canon character is also a must. Having your character down makes for an
overall enjoyable experience.
Rules:
A character max of 10 and break that down to 5 main top tier characters and 5 second stringers. This would keep any one person from taking all the head liners and leaving characters open for others to apply for. Second stringers could be agreed upon by the MODs and exceptions could be made if the SL fit for the character differs from their canon setting. (see rule on groupings.) Primary characters should be those seen/use most frequently. If someone has Batman and Gnort, Batman would be the primary character and the one expected to be played more often unless the scene was one where he would not be involved, one set up specifically for the secondary character or the primary is out of play for some other reason.
To increase the villains we've instituted a mandatory villain policy. To have multiple characters, i.e. Characters 1,2,3=heroes, 4=villain, 5,6,7=heroes, 8=villain, 9,10=heroes. Players can have more villains if they chose of course, but keeping it this way will keep a ratio high enough to allow us some variety and play for villains and heroes alike.
Characters should not be part of the same group. i.e. Superman and Batman should have different players since they share the JLA bond. If a character is willing to be a reserve only member of one group like Dinah could be reserve JSA, active JLA then another JSA would be allowed, but she would be considered founder of JLA and BoP so those would not be open to pick another of either of those two groups.
Similarly no mun should have a character and that characters main rival or nemesis. Superman should not also be Lex Luthor or Bizarro, Aquaman should not also be Black Manta, Wonder Woman should not also be Circe or Cheeta etc. This keeps things fair, it also keeps up the element of true rivalry between the characters.
People can play multiple characters in the same scene, but generally should not be working closely together. It would be the same as a multi hit mode and not fair to other players. Part of the storyline re-focus is to make everyone feel more involved.
Use it or loose it. If a character stays dormant for a long period of time (to be determined by the mods) and options for play have been made, then the Mods would reserve the right to open applications or cast other people for those roles. If the part has not been allowed to be introduced, the player is in need of a reasonable hiatus(to be determined by the mods), or a mun leaves the SL, case by case discretion will be taken to handle the situation.
Cross gender characters. If a male wants to play a female character or vice versa it will be allowed, but with restrictions. The majority of characters played should be in the same gender as the mun. Also it has to be stated that the player is indeed male/female playing a character not their own gender. Canon pairings with these characters will not be forced should anyone feel uncomfortable with them. Should anyone be found to be lying about their gender to be able to play a specific character they will be immediately expelled and banned from the SL.
Adult situations may occur between characters, these could include, but are not limited to: Extreme violence, blood shed, torture, mental manipulation, or consensual sexual* activity. These are understood and can occur but are not to be done in public chats, forums or logs. If such things do occur then a rated version of the log or a synopsis of the relevant event needs to be given to the Mods. Sexual activity is not considered story line relevant and no logs need to be provided for those.
Canon characters are to be respected. Any deviations from the canon character that will change that character in a major way (sexuality, marital status, death, mental state, physical impairment) must be cleared with the MODs before hand. If valid and reasonable arguments are made for such changes, chances are good they will be allowed and made known to the group if need be.
Godly use of characters. Superman is nigh unbeatable but he has weaknesses, Captain Marvel has the power of gods but he is limited in ways, every character should have their balance. Anyone trying to play a character lacking balancing weaknesses will be discretely made aware by the MODS, if this happens again a more formal notice will be given and a third time will mean suspension or expulsion from the group. No one should ever be unbeatable, and in comics they aren't. Characters who have exceptional powers/abilities/training will be very carefully screened before the application is accepted.
All new players will be taken on under a probationary period. This is to the benefit of both the MODS and the new player. This is time to see what it is like, be involved and get a sense of how things are done in the SL. Should things not mesh between the player and the MODS at that time, the player is free to leave or be asked to leave. In the case that a player is asked to leave specific reasons and examples if there are any, will be cited. If a player wishes to leave on their own they are not obligated to say why, but it is always appreciated and valued to get feedback.
Players are encouraged to provide feedback and suggestions on the SL and group in general. Policies can be modified with good reason, rules can be changed and new avenues of play opened. Player feedback is key to getting things changed. All player feedback should come from a recognized screen name though, otherwise it may be disregarded.
Public rooms, private rooms, IM's and logs. All RP should be logged, the person logging should be established at the beginning of play and do not ever simply assume that someone will log. Exceptions to logs see below. Players are free to play any time in any means so long as relevant logs are sent to the mods so SL continuity can be upheld. Side RP is also encouraged, but if it deviates from the story arc please consider it out of continuity and do not draw it into the SL.
No person will act as a representative to another SL or group and insult, degrade, put down, agitate, confront or threaten them. Anyone caught trying to start trouble between DCU and any other sl will be immediately expelled and banned. Due to problems in the past reflecting poorly on the group at large due to the actions of a select few, this behavior will not be tolerated. No group nor player is better than another, we are all here to have fun and creating an antagonistic environment will not attract players or make it fun for those already involved. Everyone in the SL, outside of the SL and applying to the SL is due respect until proven otherwise, as need be people will be banned and notices then sent to the group.
*Exception to the adult situations rule. The is never a good 'excuse' or plot point for Rape. It is simply not something that will be used to advance a story line. If you desire a rape scene for your character you can resign form the SL. Rape is a serious and brutal crime with life long effects on the psyche. There is absolutely no reasons for this to be used at all. If rape is how someone enjoys their rp, then they are not wanted in the DCU. Rape is cause for immediate expulsion from the SL.
